

Layers are only available in object mode, they are per object, not for subsets of geometry.

Why wouldn't I believe that a copy of the skirt would be a separate object and not affect the vertex count. That's what I originally tried to do with MakeClothes, but although the instructions do mention that the vertex count must remain the same, they do not mention that creating a copy in this manner will change that count. I have seen Blender tutorials for making clothing on You Tube where they select an area of the mesh on the human, duplicate it, and then without moving it, they scale it up slightly so that it's not touching the mesh anymore, and then treat it as a separate object and proceed to model it. This would have been very helpful information had it been in the instructions and would have constituted one single line of text. That's great if all you guys are looking to do is provide these tools for users who are experts already, as Manuel says, but I think you'd have a whole lot more people contributing clothing and hairstyles to the project if some of us not so expert users were offered a little hand up to get rolling with this.įrom what you wrote, I now know that the first step is to load the human twice, move one to the side, and tag it as "cloth", and then move it to a different layer and proceed to model it into a piece of clothing. They do not say that I should model them from scratch in Blender, or how to fit them to the toddler, or if I should be using the real world physics to generate them as cloth, or if I import them from a different program, how I should attach them. If you look at the screenshot I've attached, they go from scaling down the helper geometry, to a picture of the toddler with diapers on already.

The second reason I did not get very far with MakeClothes is because these instructions take a giant leap from "how to install MakeClothes" to "What to do once the clothes are made". In fact, these instructions just tell you how to hide it because it's in the way. I have looked and so far I've found nothing that tells me why I'd want or need it in MakeClothes. The problem I had is that although the instructions, say for the diapers, go into great detail about how to install Blender Tools (which is no brainer stuff anyway), they do not explain at all what "Helper Geometry is, or if that is some "Basic 101 Blender thing" or something specific to MakeHuman. It is true that I've only been learning Blender for a few months, however I have been through a 15 lesson course in it and have more than "zero" knowledge, as you put it. I'll study it to further my knowledge of Blender. The Blender concepts are explained in more Blender-centered guides and tutorials. The tutorials do not assume 0 knowledge of Blender, that would take them too far and make them hard to use (too much information). The reason MakeClothes appears so hard to you appears to be that you're struggling with basic blender concepts, instead of things specific to MakeClothes. I think a basic Blender 101 would be a good start.
